Their justification for allowing two companies to merge when there are no other competitors is that XM/Sirius really does have competitors aside from terrestrial radio, and they’re the internet and iPods.

I’ll roll with that as far as non-live content.  Sure shows like Stern are live, but that can easily be offered as a podcast later that day and the listening experience be just the same.  But when you are talkig about live events, like NFL games, that’s where I totally disagree with that decision.  Now there is only one non-terrestrial radio service as a medium, and that is XM/Sirius.  No competition for contracts, no competition for suscriber fees, etc…  Those can’t be offered as podcasts (yet).

Oh well, I’m not, and don’t plan to subscribe to either, so guess I can’t complain much.  I’m sure the XM fanboys are bitching that “Great, now XM is going to suck just like Sirius” and the Sirius fanboys are saying the same thing.

St Patrick’s Day is no doubt the greatest holiday out there. I love irish rock, and I love the experience of all day bar-hopping. So, here’s 6 songs to get you in the mood for some St Patty’s Day drinking.

On hiatus

No, I haven’t dissapeared, just haven’t felt much like writing. But a quick update over the last 6 months, I’ve moved into my new loft in Kansas City’s River Market District, and absolutely loving it. I’m also going to be starting a new job in the next couple weeks working as a developer for a new website that will hopefully launch in about 6 months, and couldn’t be more excited!

Until we meet again. =)

The condo puzzle

Because I’m pretty much custom designing my new condo, it’s been pretty crazy trying to piece together everything I need, and want. So far though I’ve managed to get quite a few of the essentials purchased over the last week.

First up… my new baby, a Philips 42pf9431d, translated a 42″ Plamsa TV. I’ve been glued to my couch over the last day since getting it watching movies and sports in HD, this thing is gorgeous.

Next up… my new bedroom set that I got a great deal on during the thanksgiving sales.

And my most recent purchase was my refrigerator

The Manhattan, my new home

So I’ve been hearing these ads on 96.5 The Buzz recently for these new condominiums in downtown Kansas City, just a few blocks from where I currently live. I’ve been looking at condos recently, but not seriously considering buying one as I love my current loft, however, after checking out this new condo development, The Manhattan – Kansas City, I fell in love with them immediately. upon walking out, I asked my parents to give me a reason not to buy one, and the only answer they had was… “We can’t, and we think you should.”

The Manhattan has great prices (much cheaper than The Metropolitan, which is just next door), the amenities are outstanding, and best of all, the lifestyle that it’s developer, Matt Abbott, is trying to create appears to be one of a kind with amenities like these:

  • Granite counter-tops are standard in both the
  • kitchen and bath areas
  • 5 ¼ inch crown molding and baseboards are standard
  • Italian travertine tile is standard in all the wet areas
  • All new stainless steel appliances
  • Stainless gas range cook-top
  • All new custom cabinetry
  • Updated plumbing and electrical in every unit
  • Built in wine rack in every unit
  • 24/7 Concierge
  • On site property management
  • Limousine service for all residents
  • Secured building access
  • Penthouse pool and lounge
  • Full fitness facility
  • Secured parking
  • 25yr. Tax Abatement

I’m looking at moving in either late-December or January. It just depends on how much I want to customize my layout & design.

I need to blog more

I know, I know. I honestly have lots of topics brewing through my head, they just haven’t congealed enough yet to write about. Topics include; New media, YouTube, my insane amount of concerts coming up, an based based MP3-collection interface I am building, my triumphant return return to NetFlix, Jayhawks football, and as all bloggers do… politics.

So my goal will be to write at least one good post per week. It’s not a ton, but it’s a good start compared to where I am at right now.

What makes America great?

The freedom to make our children wear rat tails and flag bathing suits.

I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to get excited to read stories this week about the idiots mixing fireworks and mass quantities of alcohol and doing stupid things.

Here’s a good YouTube query, Fireworks + Drunk.

Recap of last few months

Well, it’s been a few months since my last post, but that’s for a good reason. Let’s take a look back at the last few months for me…

April
- Enter 96.5 The Buzz’s 2nd Chance Prom Prom King contest
- Go to Vegas for a bachelor Party
- Return from Vegas, win prom king, and have an awesome time at prom

May
- Spend a week in Cancun
- See Depeche Mode, one of my favorite bands ever
- Spend 10 days in Europe (Barcelona, Paris, & London)

June
- Finally return to work, only to be recruited by an advertising agency a few blocks away from where I live (Downtown Kansas City) and am offered a great opportunity that I’d be crazy to pass on. I took the job.

Coming up

June
- Float trip with a bunch of friends this coming weekend

July
- Start my new job
- Go to one of my old roommates weddings in Omaha

August – October
- Come up with something creative to do

November
- Go see the Jayhawks play likely #1 Florida in Vegas

December
- Birthday & Christmas

Soooo….. I haven’t really been bored enough to write about anything lately as the last few months have probably been the craziest, most exciting months of my life. A lot of times people say you come back from vacations re-energized and motivated. No, really, I started the month of May pretty motivated with work, and at the end of the month, had nothing left. Now all I want to do is travel, hah. I was really getting used to the whole work 10 days a month & travel to other countries the rest of the time thing. Oh well.

But here is the point of this post… The one thing I have learned from the last few months is that while you need luck for things to go your way sometimes, luck isn’t completely out of your control. If you continually put yourself in new situations, try new things, and make good decisions about the things you can control, the things out of your control will start to fall your way.

There has been one specific quote that has really stayed with me through this process… “Consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative” – Oscar Wilde

Nothing could be more true, so go experience something new.

Flock BlogThis! test

Blog This! ?You can easily blog interesting web content with Flock, in just a few clicks.Example: 1. Highlight a passage on a web page that you would like to blog about.? 2. Right-click that selection and choose Blog This. ? 3. The blog editor opens with that selection already inserted. Not only that, the selection is properly formatted as a Blockquote and appropriate citation is included.

Hmm…. Not that blogging was too hard before, but this is pretty damn cool. I just installed Flock, a firefox based browser with all sorts of cool features… this being one of them.

I love the attitude Sun is, or rather was (some of these ads were pulled), taking against Dell with the launch of Sun’s new server lines.

And on a completely unrelated note… HBO’s “Rome” is awesome! It is so awesome in fact that HBO has ordered another 12 episodes which we will see sometime in 2007. Great… just in time for the Sopranos.

Ok, so this really hasn’t evolved into a “video blog” in the traditional sense, rather, it is just me throwing up a bunch of edited clips that I have stored in random places on my computer from weeks, months, and years ago. If you want a real video blog, check out here, here, and here for a couple. In the meantime… this one goes out to Heather and Justin who are living with a rather fat Stormy now. This was shot back when Stormy was a wee little kitten a bit over a year ago. So guys, at least you can look back on this video and remember the time when he weighed no more than a bag of catnip. The opponent in this battle royale is MonkeyPox, King of the stubby butt species of chimps.

Why “My Coco” as the background music? It was a request. Also, no more puppy/kitten videos, I just had to at least get these ones up here.

Meet Krista… my parent’s golden retriever. I shot this when we first got her, when she was probably 10 weeks old. Most parents record and cherish their childs first words, their first steps, first day at school. Well here we got Krista’s first “accident” in the house and first fart. She also learns that when you eat something, it dissapears. Takes her a little while to figure out though.

Enjoy.
